Winter at Woodlands Farm was muddy to say the least!

Winter is often the quietest of the four seasons. This has given us an opportunity to take a little break, plant 1200 trees, build a new website and develop more hemp products including our skin care range!

This time of year is about preparation for planting. Our hemp paddock prep is a little different this year. This season we are aiming to grow a completely chemical free crop. Instead of spraying our paddock with herbicide before planting, we will be doing 2-3 rounds of disc cultivation and fallowing. This will encourage weed seeds to germinate, then plough them into the soil, exhausting the seed bank and giving our hemp seeds a better chance to grow. This would usually be done over the winter months. However, it has been too wet -see tractor photo. Once the paddock dries from the winter weather we will be able to start cultivating!
