Our Hemp

healthy. local. sustainable. delicious.

Hemp Hearts are the creamy, nutty centre of the hemp seed. The hemp seed from the paddock (once cleaned and dried) has the outer shell (husk) removed in a process called de-hulling. They are a very versatile and delicious addition to virtually any type of dish. They can be sprinkled on salads and desserts, added to smoothies, baked in bread the options are endless.

Hemp Hearts are high in protein (32%) and contain a complete chain of amino acids making them a healthy plant based alternative to meat products. Hemp seeds contain a high amount of essential fatty acids (Omega 3, Omega 6 and GLA). The Omega 6 and Omega 3 fats are delivered in the optimum ratio of 3:1 which allows the human body to fully absorb them. They also contain high amounts of vitamin E, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron and zinc.

Hemp Seed Oil is packed with your essential fatty acids omega 3, 6 and GLA. These are good for many things including your skin, digestion and inflammation. Hemp Seed Oil is also high in vitamin E and has an SPF of 5 so we have been collaborating with other producers in developing our skin care range.

The hemp flour we sell is made from milling the outer shell of the hemp seed. This flour is super healthy and full of fire and protein. Hemp flour is great as an adding flour in pancakes, homemade bread and mixed through smoothies for that extra healthy kick!

The Plant

Good for you and the environment

There are many parts to the hemp plant with many uses. The seeds of the hemp plant are used for food. This includes the husk and the heart of the seed. The fiber in the stalk of the hemp plant is strong. The fiber can be used to make fabric for clothing and rugs, rope and pet bedding.

The center of the stalk is known as the hurd, it feels chalky and light. This can be extracted through a decorticator machine. The hurd can then be mixed with lime and water to make a building material known as hempcrete. This product is great for insulation, is a fire retardant and great for the environment. Every year there are more and more houses built out of this material in Tasmania.
